On "Cloud 10"

It’s one thing to feel like you have met the love of your life. It’s a whole different feeling to have it confirmed with an engagement. I’ve often heard the feeling described as “cloud 9,” but if we’re being honest, you’re are in an elite club called “Cloud 10” where nothing can bring you down. You sit down to start planning and the BAM! You realize that you have no idea where to begin. Lucky for you - cue Toy Story track - “you’ve got a friend in me.” Well Iet me give you a few tips (that aren’t already all over the internet) to get you on you’re way.

Take a pause
This is one of the happiest moments of your life. Don’t let it get clouded by the overwhelming opinions of friends and family, and the daunting tasks of searching through vendors. You should spend the first month of your engagement dreaming with your significant over. You are both in this bubble together so talk about your design preferences, dream ideas, color schemes, and people you may or may not want in (or at) the wedding. This will help the two of you come to a collective vision BEFORE involving additional planning partners. After all, this is about you and your significant other. The best way to keep it that way is to come in with a unified front.

Get your ring insured
There are so many things that could happen to your new bling - lost, stolen, damaged. By protecting it from the start, not only do you show how much you value it, you are able to rest easier knowing that this precious gift is protected at all costs. Check out this blog on the Knot that give all of the tips, tricks, and information you could need to get this process started.

Start collecting inspiration
The time for cookie cutter weddings is over and Inspiration can come from anywhere so take some time to explore. This could me checking out your favorite restaurants, going to grand opening events, attending concerts and local parties, and even walking around the neighborhood. Write down cool features (it’s okay to use the back of your old receipts - they have to be good for something). You can come back to these later when thinking about design.

Set your budget - after you have fully dreamed out your big day
Most couple tend to cut themselves short of what could really be an amazing day by thinking about their budget before thinking about their desires. When you think about your desires first, it make it easier to determine a prioritization for your budget. Example: if you are dreaming of unique food display and great music, you may put less money towards decor. However, if you are dreaming of a cool design, you may opt for a simpler meal.
